Materials:

I often end up with unused gift bags or receive gift bags that are too cute to just throw away. So with some dollar store frames and spray paint, I can display my gift bags as a work of art!

  • Gift Bags

  • Picture frames

  • Spray Paint

  • Scissors

Getting Started

First, select the gift bags and frames you want to use. Next, unwrap the plastic and remove any tags from the frames. Once you have done that, carefully remove the glass, paper and cardboard from inside the frames.

Spray Paint the Frames

*TIP: Whenever I am going to spray paint, I always place my item in an old cardboard box first. It helps contain the mess and gives the item a great place to dry*

Before you start spray painting, make sure you are in a well-ventilated room or outside

This step is optional BUT really elevates the look of the frames. Most dollar store frames are plastic so make sure your spray paint adheres to plastic. Follow the instructions on your spray paint can and start painting. Spray the frames in a sweeping motion to avoid drips and let the frames dry in between coats of paint.

Prep the Bags

Now that the picture frames are completely dry, cut the bags so that they will fit inside the frames. Remove the handles, any cardboard and/or tags and ensure the bags will fit inside the frames.

Two of my picture frames (8x10) came with a white cardboard "mat" but the 11x14 frame did not. So I used the paper that came inside the 11x14 frame, turned it over and cut it out to look like a white "mat".

Once the bags (and mats) are trimmed to fit inside the frames, reassemble the picture frames.
